If there is anything I’ve ever wanted to excel at in life, it’s organization. I often fall short but that’s okay because it means there’s going to be more organizing in my future. The theme for this week is organizing for multiple trips while also deep cleaning the house. I’m not sure this is such a good idea because I’ll probably arrive at Friday, which is the go date for trip one, feeling overwhelmed that I still have things to prepare.
I’ve also been obsessed with “what to pack” videos on YouTube despite the fact I’ve been packing for years on my own. It’s just that I’m curious how other people do it so I’ve (wasted?) spent many hours on this (for entertainment purposes only). Whenever you watch videos on YouTube, they also kindly offer up other videos you might be interested in and so my second favorite genre has been Amazon travel purchase videos. This has been very dangerous! There were so many things I didn’t know I needed to have for my travels.
Speaking of which, when did Amazon Prime mean you get your stuff the next day (for the most part)? Do you know how much more dangerous this makes Amazon for me? Exponentially. I’d hate to tell you how many times I’ve hit the submit button over the past month! I think I have enough items to film my own favorites Amazon haul. Except I haven’t used much of it yet so maybe that’s an idea for the future.
Lists. This is an integral part to organization. I am always on the hunt for a new App that will make this fun task even more amazing but I’ve yet to find one I can remain consistent with. I have also gone the handwritten route but I eventually lose the list or it becomes coffee stained or I throw it out. Some of these lists are the same every trip (beach vacation, trips to Florida) so it would be nice to put them in a place where I can find them each time I need them. When I was working, I used to have a spreadsheet and keep all the trips on a new tab but I don’t use those anymore. Currently I’m using Google Keep (color coded check lists, anyone?) and like it. And I can access it on my phone, iPad or online.
Don’t ask me why, but I’ve decided to tackle some heavy cleaning as well and have put my twelve year old to work. He is back from overnight camp which he loved but it didn’t do wonders on his attitude so I’ve put an embargo on electronics indefinitely which leaves him with a lot of time. He was a wonderful helper yesterday as we tore the living room apart and vacuumed, dusted and washed every surface. I think I heard him bragging to someone about his day at football camp last night! You might also be surprised to hear that I’m tackling my junk room too.
How do you feel about organizing?

I love to organize — or at any rate, I love the end result — like cleaning, it brings a sense of peace. I don’t do any organizing or it’s tracking via apps or online in any way — that seems harder to me than finding paper and pen!

Yes, organizing does bring peace and paper and pen always works! It makes crossing things off the list more fulfilling too.
